The following main products and by-products will be produced by Keliber Oy:
Lithium carbonate
- Keliber Oy aims to produce what is known as “battery-grade” lithium carbonate, or more precisely, high battery-grade Li2CO3 (99.99%) to meet the increasing need for this on the lithium battery market. Pure lithium carbonate is also needed in the ceramics and glass industry for manufacturing certain special types of glass.
Tantalum
- The Länttä lithium deposit also contains an average of 230 ppm columbite, in the form of elongated crystals. These crystals can easily be separated out by gravitational methods in the course of the production process.
- Columbite concentrate is a by-product that creates additional value as it contains tantalum and niobium. The value of columbite concentrate is generally defined in terms of its tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) content, but in the case of the Länttä deposit the value of the niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5) present is also significant. The average Ta2O5 content of this deposit is 68 ppm and the Nb2O5 content 117 ppm.
Quartz and feldspar
- The development of quartz feldspar-based products is one of the future projects envisaged by Keliber Oy. Quartz feldspar concentrate accounts for about 60–65% of the total output, and is regarded as a by-product that creates a significant additional value. Pure quartz, for example, has several possible end uses in the production of glass and of optical fibres, while feldspar is used in the ceramics industry.
Crushed stone
- Besides the ore, the mine at Länttä in Ullava will produce 1–1,5 Mt of gangue. This will partly be used for the company´s own purposes and partly sold as crushed stone to customers in the area.
