Joint Research Centre - Raw Materials Information System- The JRC Raw Materials Information System (RMIS) provides a structured repository of information on raw materials, excluding energy-related raw materials (these are covered e.g. under the JRC SETIS website). This includes an introduction of the context (with reference to key EU policy documents), presentation of various approaches and of EU-level ongoing activities related to raw materials (on methods, indicators, data, etc.), as well as links to other relevant activities in Europe and beyond. The overarching aim of the JRC RMIS is to help strengthening the competitiveness and visibility of the EU raw materials sector, while promoting green and sustainable growth. - The JRC RMIS contributes to the EU Raw Material Initiative COM(2008)699, which states that “Raw materials are essential for the sustainable functioning of modern societies. Access to and affordability of mineral raw materials are crucial for the sound functioning of the EU’s economy. […] Securing reliable and undistorted access to raw materials is increasingly becoming an important factor for the EU’s competitiveness […]. The critical dependence of the EU on certain raw materials underlines that a shift towards a more resource efficient economy and sustainable development is becoming even more pressing”.
