Fra keliber.fi- Just a fraction of the over 500 square kilometres of the Central Ostrobothnian lithium province has been explored so far, and it is already clear that there is a significant potential for discovering new lithium deposits. The company’s long-term goal is to produce 6 000 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year, as allowed for under the existing environmental licence. - The Geological Survey has also estimated that the known mineral deposits in the lithium province of Central Ostrobothnia would be large enough to support mining for several tens of years.

In a recent test program, Nordic Mining's associated company Keliber (Nordic Mining owns approximately 25%) has consistently produced battery grade lithium carbonate (>99.5% Li2CO3). The purity of the lithium carbonate samples produced was in the range 99.67% - 99.91% Li2CO3. As a part of the comprehensive process studies conducted in connection with the forthcoming pre-feasibility study, Keliber has carried out test work together with GTK Mintec and Outotec (Finland) Oyj to develop and optimise its lithium carbonate production process. Lithium carbonate has been produced from spodumene pegmatite ore from the Länttä deposit. Analytical results indicate that high -purity lithium carbonate, including qualities exceeding 99.9% purity, can be produced using the developed process technology. The battery grade lithium carbonate (>99.5% Li2CO3) is used in the cathode part of the batteries. Lithium carbonate of 99.9% purity is used in the manufacturing of electrolyte solutions for lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are used in electric and hybrid vehicles and electronics like tablets, mobile phones and laptops. Keliber's pre-feasibility study is expected to be completed in February 2016. CEO Ivar S. Fossum comments: "We are pleased with the results from test program. The results demonstrate ability and flexibility to meet the quality requirements in the highest end of the market. The demand for lithium in various applications is developing positively, and prices have increased significantly over the last months."

Fra keliber.fi 4. februar 2016- Keliber has conducted a test program together with GTK Mintec and Outotec (Finland) Oyj to develop and optimize company’s lithium carbonate production process. The test program is completed and the samples of lithium carbonate produced from company’s Länttä spodumene pegmatite ore are now analyzed by the independent laboratory. Results indicate that even over 99.9 % purity lithium carbonate can be produced using the developed production process technology. The purity of the lithium carbonate samples produced during the test program was between 99.67 % - 99.91 %. - Lithium carbonate of minimum 99.9% purity is used specifically to manufacture of electrolyte solution for lithium-ion batteries. The battery grade (99.5% Li2CO3) lithium carbonate is used in the cathode part of the batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are used in electric and hybrid vehicles and electronics like tablets, mobile phones and laptops. - Keliber’s CEO Olle Sirén comments: “We are exceptionally pleased with the received results. We were able to produce high purity end product as targeted. The high purity lithium carbonate will give us large potential customer base in the future and possibility to the price premium of higher quality product. We will now continue our efforts to move forward with our project. Our next step is to get the ongoing pre-feasibility study process completed during coming weeks.”
